10 Tips for Visiting Orlando Theme Parks with a Toddler

Taking a toddler to Disney World or Universal Studios sounds like a dream, and it absolutely can be! But without the right preparation it can also turn into an exhausting meltdown marathon. After helping thousands of families with their Orlando stroller rentals we have picked up a lot of wisdom. Here are our top 10 tips for making the most of Orlando theme parks with your little one.

Tip 1: Rent a Stroller, Do Not Bring One

This is our number one tip and it is not just because we are in the stroller rental business. Dragging a stroller through airports, checking it at baggage, worrying about airline damage, it is a lot of extra stress before your vacation even begins. Have a premium stroller delivered directly to your hotel and start your trip fresh and relaxed.

💡 GoGo Strollers delivers to all Disney and Universal resort hotels as well as Kissimmee, Lake Buena Vista and surrounding vacation homes. Book before your trip to guarantee availability!

Tip 2: Go Early, Really Early

Toddlers are at their best in the morning. The crowds are smaller, the temperature is cooler and your little one has not yet hit their afternoon energy wall. Aim to be at the park gates at least 30 minutes before opening. You can knock out the most popular toddler-friendly rides before the lines grow.

Tip 3: Plan Around Nap Time

This might be the most important tip for toddler parents. Plan to leave the park during your child's usual nap time. Yes, even if it means missing a few hours. A well-rested toddler in the afternoon is worth far more than a meltdown at the most magical place on earth. Your stroller makes this easy, little ones often nap beautifully while being pushed through the parks.

Tip 4: Pack More Snacks Than You Think You Need

Theme park food is great but it is expensive and sometimes unpredictable. Pack your toddler's favorite snacks, familiar food is a lifesaver when a hungry toddler hits a wall. Most parks allow you to bring your own food and snacks. Use your stroller storage basket as a mobile snack station!

Tip 5: Dress for the Florida Heat

Florida is hot and humid especially from May through September. Dress your toddler in lightweight breathable clothing and bring a change of clothes. A portable fan clipped to your stroller is an absolute game changer in the heat. Our Theme Park Survival Kit add-on includes a portable fan, cooling towels and rain ponchos, everything you need for Florida weather.

Tip 6: Use the Disney or Universal App

Both Disney World and Universal Studios have excellent apps that show real-time wait times. For toddlers stick to rides with shorter waits, meltdowns in long lines are not fun for anyone. Use the app to identify toddler-friendly attractions and plan your route efficiently so you spend more time on rides and less time walking.

Tip 7: Take Advantage of Rider Switch

Many rides have height requirements that toddlers will not meet. Disney's Rider Switch program lets one parent ride while the other waits with the toddler and then swap without waiting in line again. This way both parents get to experience adult attractions without leaving your little one alone.

Tip 8: Find the Character Meet and Greets Early

Toddlers absolutely love character meet and greets but the lines get long fast. Check the Disney or Universal app first thing in the morning and head to the most popular character spots before the crowds build. Seeing Mickey Mouse or Elmo up close will be a highlight your toddler talks about for months.

Tip 9: Have a Rain Plan

Florida afternoon thunderstorms are almost a daily occurrence from June through September. They typically blow in around 2-4pm and clear up within an hour. Do not let rain ruin your day, use it as a natural break time for your toddler to rest, grab a snack indoors and recharge before the evening. Always keep rain ponchos handy!

💡 Your rental stroller comes with a rain cover included so your little one stays dry even in a downpour. No extra purchase needed!

Tip 10: Lower Your Expectations, In the Best Way

You may have dreamed of riding every ride and seeing every show. With a toddler the goal is different, it is about magical moments, not maximum coverage. Your toddler will remember the feeling of wonder, the ice cream, the character hug and the excitement in the air. Let them lead sometimes. Stop and watch the parade even if it is not in your plan. Those unscripted moments are often the most magical memories of all.
